Amy Barton speaks about her passion for Arvad Ministries and House of Grace
Laurie R Grier MD FCCM, FCCP, FACP
Dr Grier is Northern born and Southern raised. She received her medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, LA in 1987. She underwent training in Internal Medicine at USF in Tampa, FL and returned home to LSU to complete a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Grier is a diplomat with ABMS in Critical Care Medicine. She is a distinguished Fellow at the Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians and American College of Physicians. Dr. Grier currently occupies several valuable roles at LSU Health including Director of Critical Care Medicine, Director of Vascular Access, Director of Cardiopulmonary Science, and Fellowship Director of Critical Care Medicine as well as the Chief Quality Officer at Ochsner LSU Health. She is a Professor of Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, OMFS and OBGYN. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her rescue dog Macie and friends as well as reading, traveling, and going to the movies.
Amy Barton, RN, BSN, VA-BC
Amy Barton has been married to David B Barton for 7 years and resides in Haughton, LA. They have 5 children Bryar and wife Amanda, Bethany, Brandt and wife Caroline, Bayes and wife Sadye, and Olivia, along with 6 grandchildren Violet, Baylor, Benji, Finley, Daisy, Baker and one more on the way. Amy has been a foster mom to Olivia and “Tay” and while “Tay” returned to her biological family, Olivia was adopted at the age of 3. Amy has obtained a BSN of Nursing from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA and practiced as an ER nurse, Pediatric nurse, Trauma nurse, ICU nurse, and Vascular nurse in her 19-year career at LSU Health in Shreveport, LA. She has also worked as COO in starting 5 retail health clinics in Chicago, IL and Minneapolis, MN. She has left her full-time position as an RN to homeschool Olivia and focus her time and energy on Arvad Ministries. Amy firmly believes that the young women who are aging out of foster care or have experienced a life of trauma are in desperate need of a safe refuge as well as life skills and a support system that shares with them the HOPE of a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Angela M. Henderson
Angela is a native of Shreveport who serves as the Assistant Executive Director and Sexual Assault Program Director for Project Celebration, Inc. She holds a Master’s Degree from Louisiana Baptist University in Psychology and Christian Counseling. Having worked in the areas of Domestic and Sexual Violence for over 21 years has afforded her the opportunity to be the voice for those who may have lost theirs. Mrs. Henderson is married to her amazing husband, Jessie, of 25 years and has one extraordinary daughter, Sachiri, who recently graduated from Captain Shreve High School with a heart to serve. Angela’s an active member of First Bossier and serves with the Women’s ministry, High School Ministry, and teaches fifth grade Sunday school. She enjoys watching cooking shows with her husband, pageantry, spending time with family, and watching her daughter use her God-given talent to bless others.
Mrs. Henderson’s effort to promote social change through education has allowed her to form lasting relationships with community partners, who collaborate to eradicate the life altering crimes of domestic and sexual abuse. She serves as an affiliate with the Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault (Board Member), Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Caddo-Bossier Domestic Violence Task Force (Former Vice-President/Secretary for 12 years), Sexual Assault Response Team, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Women of Color Network, PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act), and a number of organizations dedicated to serving victim/survivors and those who are oppressed. She is also a member of Zonta International, a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy (District 10 Area 2 Club #175 President 2017-2019), and Co-founder of B.E.A.S.T. Crew Inc., an Anti-Bullying agency started by her daughter in 3rd grade as a result of being bullied. Being an agent for change through educating the public; her hope is that bystanders will take a stand and hold perpetrators accountable for disrupting and even ending the lives of those she serves.
David B Barton
David “Brad” Barton is a carpenter by trade who has spent his life serving others in multitude of capacities. Brad was married to Teresa Barton for 21 years until her passing in 2013 of Leukemia. Together they had four children Bryar, Bethany, Brandt and Bayes. After Teresa’s passing Brad married Amy Barton and they have been raising Olivia and enjoying their six grandchildren for the last seven years. Brad has served as a Sunday school teacher to college and youth, a Youth pastor, a worship leader, and a Sunday School Superintendent in his local church for the last 20 years. He has also served as a 4-H shooting sports Level 3 instructor, coach and range officer on both the state and national levels. Brad also served as a state committee member for 4-H shooting sports and worked as a fundraiser for his local chapter of 4-H. Brad was a firefighter at England Airforce Base and a volunteer at Winnfield Fire Dept in his early adulthood then worked to build his company Barton Construction building homes and doing remodels, specializing in natural disaster repairs. Brad hopes to work towards building a home that provides safety to the young women in our community for many years to come.
BritniAnn Taylor
BritniAnn Taylor is a tenth grade biology teacher at West Monroe High School and active member at Cedar Crest Baptist Church. She is wife to Worship Leader, Jackson Taylor and is committed to living her life in worship to God through serving others. She is an FCS graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Family and Child Services and is excited about serving at Arvad Ministries.
Susan Cox
Susan Cox has been married to Jeff Cox for 30 years and they reside in Bossier City, LA. They have two children, Gabrielle and Stephen. Susan obtained a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education from Louisiana Tech University in May of 1990. She has held multiple teaching positions over the years and currently works three mornings a week teaching three-year old preschool at St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School in Shreveport. Susan has served her community well as a board member to Cotillion Club from 2016-2020, Bible fellowship leader from 2014-2017, Republican Women of Bossier Board President in 2017 and on the Providence House Board from 2016-2017. She and her husband attend First Bossier in Bossier City, LA. ies.
Christopher Baker
Christopher T Baker is a Bossier Parish native originally hailing from Plain Dealing, Louisiana. He is a graduate of LSU Shreveport in Kinesiology and received his JD from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, VA in 2009. His legal career began as a law clerk and constitutional attorney for the American Center for Law and Justice in Washington, DC and continued upon his return to Louisiana culminating in his founding a solo practice in 2012 focusing on real estate and estate planning. That same year, he founded Baker Title and Abstract, LLC, which serves as a real estate closing and title insurance company throughout the state. He is the husband to Jodie Baker and father to two children Landry and Wyatt. He has served as a representative and past president of the Cypress Black Bayou Recreation and Water Conservation District in Bossier Parish. He currently serves as a member of the board for the Bossier Parish Council on Aging as well as Arvad Ministries’ House of Grace.
Patricia A Watkins
Patricia (Trish) is a native of Durham, NC and relocated to Shreveport, LA at the end of 2004. She is a
Commercial lines Underwriter at Woodus K. Humphrey & Company, Inc. She is a graduate of the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in Business Administration - concentration in
Management. Trish has served as a Sunday School teacher to children and youth. VBS Director, Church
Board Chair and as a Wedding Hostess/Director.
Trish enjoys, watching UNC Basketball, traveling, playing bunco and spending time with family and
friends. She also has a side business of make-up and skincare. She currently serves on the Board of
Arvad Ministries’ House of Grace.
Dallas Adams
Dallas Adams and her husband Aaron Adams are both Bossier Parish natives, and currently reside in North Bossier. With deep family ties to Bossier Parish, Dallas is excited to serve the same community her grandparents and great grandparents served. Currently, Dallas is the Brand Manager for Citizens Bank and Trust Company and loves being able to help promote the bank with different marketing strategies. She hopes that her marketing and social media skills will also help grow volunteers and resources for House of Grace.
We were able to purchase a home and 5 acres of land in Bossier Parish that will house up to 8 young women once renovations are completed. The home is currently open to up to 4 young ladies.
